Energy Generator: Why B12 is so important

Falling asleep at your desk is usually a sign that something if off.

Unfortunately it is far too common.

There can be many sources of fatigue: low iron, low blood sugar, dehydration just to name a few.

But for those with hypothyroidism or autoimmune conditions, a very common source of exhaustion is low B12.

There are a few reasons why.

Vitamin B12 is essential to the metabolism of nerve tissue and critical to the overall health of your nervous system.

Vitamin B12 is an important to the formation of red blood cells.

Vitamin B12 helps the efficiency of iron in the body.

Vitamin B12 is necessary component of protein, carbohydrate and fat metabolism.

Vitamin B12 also helps with the synthesis of DNA and RNA.

Seeing a theme here? Vitamin B12 is a core component to the generation, delivery and supply of energy in the body.

Whats interesting about vitamin B12 though is that it needs a very special protein found in the lining of the intestine in order to absorbed.

This means that some individuals have a hard time absorbing B12 not because there is a lack of it, but because they don't have the helper protein there to facilitate.

The truth is we just don't eat foods rich in B12 any more.

Less B12, less helper protein, means a lot less energy.

So lets consider the food on our plate and how it can give us what we need to thrive.

And for those of us with autoimmune conditions, it time to visit the doc and maybe get a bit more help.
