Food really is awesome. I love it, and I know there are millions-no billions-of people that would agree with me.
But here's the thing, there is more to food than you know.
Food is made up of chemicals; thousand of various chemicals that each have their own role. Some are vitamins, some are minerals, and tonnes more are a bunch of other boring sciencey things that shall remain mysterious for now.
You could go out and get all those vitamins and minerals from pills-pop a few and you're good to go. But are you? Cause here's the thing:
When nutrients work together in food, they are more than just the sum of their parts.
What this means is that the nutrients in food has synergy. Synergy is defined as "the effects of two or more agents combined is greater than the sum of the individual."
Really, it means 1 + 1 = 3.
It's like a new kind of math.
In food, that means that the vitamin c you want to stay healthy is better for you in an apple than in a pill, because that apple has all kinds of helpers built in to boost that vitamin c and keep you moving.
So it really is true, an apple a day may keep the doctor away. Or carrot, or spinach, or egg...you get my point.
